ISAAC GARFIELD, LCSW, BICBT-CC

I am a licensed clinical social worker and have a postgraduate certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness Based CBT, Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy and EMDR (eye-movement, desensitization and reprocessing, ); training in Trauma Focused CBT and Eco-systemic Family Therapy, and am a Beck Institute CBT Certified Clinician.

MY STORY

Through an extensive period of soul searching in my early 20's that included training in naturalist and wilderness living skills at the Wilderness Awareness School, 3 years experience as a hospice volunteer, and extended residential study and practice in mindfulness meditation with Thich Nhat Hanh, I eventually found my way to clinical training as a social worker at the Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Additional training and experience that informs my work includes supervision with Dr. David Wohlsifer in cognitive behavioral therapy, my work as a family therapist, guided by the eco-systemic family therapy model taught at the Center for Family Based Training, research in emotional closeness in men’s friendships/mentoring in men’s groups leadership with my father, Dr. Robert Garfield, the practice of Non-Violent Communication with Terri Lewine, training and supervision as a CBT clinician through The Beck Institute, EMDR through Connect EMDR, psychedelic assisted psychotherapy/ketamine assisted psychotherapy through Soundmind Center.

In addition to my clinical work, I have lead workshops and presentations on men and mindfulness and internet/video game addictions for conferences and clinical training institutions. I was one of the organizers and on the faculty of the Deepening Men’s Relationship Conference at Widener University and more recently developed a wilderness therapy program at a local partial-hospital addiction treatment facility.
